Short version: the 2027 Marucci Rckless Gen 2 is a real update, not a repaint. Marucci dropped "CATX" from the name, re-machined the barrel for a wider sweet spot, carried its best connection and endcap tech across more of the line, and cut prices. The two-piece composite USSSA is $299.99, a full $100 less than last year's CATX Rckless Comp. We stock the Hybrid and Alloy BBCOR, the Comp USSSA in -5, -8 and -10, and the Comp USA in -10.

What changed from the CATX Rckless
- The name. Last year it was the CATX Rckless. For 2027 it's just Rckless Gen 2. Same family, its own line now.
- A re-machined barrel. Marucci pairs its multi-variable wall design with a new CNC machining process on the alloy and hybrid barrels. The claim is a wider sweet spot and more forgiveness off-center. Thinner, more precisely varied walls are how an alloy barrel gets there, so the claim is plausible, not just marketing.
- More tech, further down the line. The Hybrid BBCOR now lists the Outer-Locking System (OLS) connection and the weight-specific PFX composite handle. The Alloy BBCOR and the Comp models now list the softer True Flex endcap, which lets the end of the barrel flex more.
- New knob and grip. A knob shape tuned to each drop, and a soft-touch 1.75mm grip with a debossed pattern.
- Lower prices. Comp USSSA: $399.99 last year, $299.99 now. Hybrid BBCOR: $399.99 to $349.99. Comp USA: $349.99 to $299.99. The Alloy BBCOR holds at $349.99.
A better barrel for less money doesn't happen often in this category. At $299.99, the Gen 2 Comp undercuts most two-piece composite USSSA bats by about $100.
Which Rckless should you buy?
High school, college, and USSSA 14U: Hybrid or Alloy BBCOR
Same price, different feel.
- Hybrid: two-piece, slight end load, and the OLS connection takes the sting out of mishits. For stronger hitters who want some mass behind the ball, and anyone who hates vibration in cold weather.
- Alloy: one-piece, balanced, stiff, with Marucci's AV3 dampener in the handle. For contact hitters, players still growing into a -3, and anyone who likes the direct feedback of a one-piece.
Both have alloy barrels, so there's no break-in and no temperature worry. That matters for a March high school season. Both come in a 33.5", a size few other brands offer, for the hitter stuck between a 33 and a 34.
Reminder: USSSA made BBCOR -3 (or wood) the national 14U standard on January 1, 2026. If your player is 13U now, his next bat is probably one of these two.
USSSA travel ball, 9U–13U: Comp -10, -8 or -5
Two-piece full composite with a mid-load barrel: a bit more mass toward the end than a pure balanced bat, without being a true end-load. Most 9–12 year olds belong in the -10. USSSA 13U requires -8 or heavier, so that's the -8 or -5.
Little League and other USA Baseball leagues: Comp -10 USA
The Comp USA -10 is the same two-piece composite build with the USA stamp and a 2⅝" barrel. The USSSA versions are not legal in these leagues.

Before the first swing
The Comp models are full composite and need a break-in: 150–200 hits with real baseballs, rotating the barrel a quarter turn each swing, never below 60°F and never against dimpled cage balls. Is the Marucci Rckless balanced or end-loaded?
It depends on the model. The Alloy is balanced, the Comp has a medium load, and the Hybrid has a slight end load.
Does the Marucci Rckless need to be broken in?
Only the Comp models, which have composite barrels and need about 150 to 200 hits. The Alloy and Hybrid models have alloy barrels and are ready to use immediately.
What is a puck knob on the Rckless?
Marucci offers two Gen 2 BBCOR models with a one-inch puck knob, which shifts the hands up and lets the bat carry a longer barrel at the same swing weight. The standard Hybrid, Alloy and Comp models covered here use a conventional knob shaped for each drop.
