What's new for 2027
Honestly, not the engine. Rawlings lists the same core technology as last year's Icon:
- In/Tense Carbon Composite barrel. Seamless construction, large sweet spot, the trampoline effect the Icon is known for.
- Two-piece design with Zero Loss Technology. A stiffened TPU connection that takes the sting out of mishits without the mushy feel of some two-piece bats.
- Tuned Balance. Balanced swing weight with a slight end load. The BBCOR swings a touch heavier than the youth models.
- RevGrip and a one-year manufacturer's warranty.
What did change is the look, and a USA lineup that now runs the full progression from -12 to -5, so a player can stay in the same bat from 8U through the jump to BBCOR.
That's not a knock. When a bat is already at the certification limit, there's nowhere legal for performance to go. A manufacturer that leaves a proven barrel alone is doing you a favor.
Which Icon do you need?
- High school and college: the -3 BBCOR. Most high school hitters swing a 32 or 33.
- USSSA 14U: also the BBCOR. USSSA made BBCOR -3 (or wood) the national 14U standard on January 1, 2026. If your player is 13U now, think hard before buying a -5 USSSA he can use for one season.
- USSSA 13U: -8 or -5. USSSA requires -8 or heavier at this age.
- USSSA 9U–12U: the -10 for most players; the -8 for stronger 11s and 12s.
- Little League, Cal Ripken, Dixie and other USA Baseball leagues: one of the four USA models. The USSSA Icon is not legal in these leagues. Most 9–12 year olds fit the -10; smaller or younger players should look at the -12.

2027 vs. earlier Icons: should you buy last year's?
Since the construction hasn't changed, an earlier Icon carries the same stamp, the same barrel and the same warranty. If the size you need is available, it's the smartest buy on this page. Buy the 2027 if you need a size that's gone in older models, you want the USA -12 or -5, or the new look matters to your player. At 12 years old, it matters.
Icon vs. Icon Fest vs. The Chosen One
- Icon: the standard two-piece model covered here.
- Icon Fest: the same two-piece bat in limited-edition graphics. Performance is identical. Available in BBCOR and USSSA while supplies last.
- Icon "The Chosen One": a one-piece composite version. Stiffer, more feedback, a lighter swing feel. For hitters who prefer a one-piece.
- Icon -11 Junior Big Barrel: a one-piece coach pitch bat for ages 5–7.
Before the first swing
The Icon is a full composite, so it needs a break-in: about 150–200 hits with real baseballs, rotating the barrel a quarter turn each swing, and never below 60°F or against dimpled cage balls. Details in how to break in a bat.
