Short version: the Select PWR is Louisville Slugger's hybrid: an EXD alloy barrel on a composite handle, so you get alloy pop and durability without the hand sting of a one-piece. For 2027 the technology is unchanged from 2026 in both the BBCOR ($399.95) and the USA Baseball line ($299.95 in -10, -8 and -5). What most people miss is that the two aren't the same bat with different stamps: the BBCOR is end-loaded for power hitters and the USA models are balanced for younger players. And with nothing new under the paint, the 2026 Select PWR is the same bat for $70 to $80 less while it lasts.

Every Select PWR has a 2⅝" EXD Premium Alloy barrel, a composite handle, the Pro Design knob taper, the LS Pro Comfort grip and a one-year warranty. There is no USSSA Select PWR; Slugger's USSSA hybrid is the Atlas Hybrid and its USSSA composite is the Supra.
What changed from 2026
The graphics. The 2027 BBCOR lists the same EXD barrel, 3FX-PWR connection, SPD-Gen3 end cap and end-loaded swing weight as the 2026. The 2027 USA models list the same EXD barrel, VCX3 connection, SPD-Gen2 end cap and balanced swing weight as the 2026. Slugger's own copy for the 2027 BBCOR says it "returns" the barrel, which is the right word.
That's fine. The Select PWR barrel has a reputation with high school power hitters for a reason, and BBCOR caps performance anyway. A bat already at the limit has nowhere legal to go.
Why the BBCOR and USA swing differently
Same name, two different jobs.
- The BBCOR is a power hitter's bat. End-loaded, with an extended alloy barrel and the stiffer 3FX-PWR connection. It's built for a strong high school or college hitter who wants mass behind the ball and doesn't mind a heavier swing. If your player is 14 and just moving to -3, this is not the first BBCOR to hand him; the balanced Atlas is the easier transition.
- The USA versions are a kid's bat. Balanced, with the softer VCX3 connection, so a 9-year-old gets the alloy barrel without the sting or the end weight. It's the Little League player's version of "hits like a big-barrel bat," and the -10, -8, -5 progression carries a player from 8U to 13.
Which Select PWR do you need?
- High school, college, USSSA 14U power hitters: the -3 BBCOR. Most high school hitters swing a 32 or 33; the half sizes exist for the ones in between.
- Little League, Cal Ripken, Dixie and other USA Baseball leagues, 8U–12U: the -10; the -8 for strong 11s and 12s.
- Little League Intermediate and Junior, 12–13: the -5, as the step before BBCOR.

Because nothing changed under the graphics, last year's models are the value play while they last, with the same stamp and warranty:

- 2026 Select PWR -5 USA: $229.95, down from $299.95.

Before the first swing
The barrel is alloy, so there's no break-in and no cold-weather restriction. It's as good in a March scrimmage as it will ever be. That's a real advantage over composite for a high school season that starts in the cold. The composite handle doesn't change that. More on why in how to break in a bat.
